French Leave, is a 10-part cooking show that goes beyond the kitchen, taking us on a journey into the French countryside and into the heart of a family.
Top UK chef John Burton Race, has made a big decision. He's going to turn his back on the two-Michelin starred restaurant he has spent years building up and embark on a gastronomic adventure. He's taking a year off to go to France and write a book about French country cooking. And he's managed to persuade his wife, his six children and the dog to go with him.
For the next year, French Leave will follow John as he creates new recipes from the traditional, tracking down and using the best seasonal ingredients that the countryside has to offer. He'll be our guide to the finest flavours of France, rifling through markets, talking to stall-owners and farmers, getting tips from charcutières, boulangères and patissières and using that expertise to create delicious meals for his family, friends and new neighbours.
This series will also explore John's trials and tribulations as he and his family create an entirely new life from scratch.
Many people dream of escaping to the French countryside. But will it be as perfect as it sounds?
